Optical absorption and emission bands was measured and assigned to transitions between the energy levels of Dy3+ ions. Optical characteristics of Dy3+-doped glasses in the system of ZrF4-based fluorides were investigated. Intensity parameters Ωt (t=2, 4, 6) were obtained using the Judd-Ofelt theory with a reasonable agreement between theory and experiment. The emission cross section of 6F11/2 + 6H9/2 →6H15/2 transition of 1.3μm emission was calculated. The effect of the Dy3+ concentration on the emission intensities has been discussed. Concentration quenching was observed in the sample containing 1.5% (mole fraction).
