To access the causes and countermeasures of longitudinal facial cracks of wide slab in first heat, a detailed analysis based on a series of production data statistic and tracing tests was performed. The analysis focued on the relationship between the cracks ratios and the mold flux properties, and effective measures to prevent longitudinal cracks were proposed.
