The corrosion behavior of Ti60 has bet 12 studied in oxygen containing water vapor at 500-700 degrees C, with and without a solid NaCl deposit on the surface. No measurable corrosion of the Ti60 alloy eas observed in atmospheres without NaCl. Corrosion of Ti60 was accelerated in the presence of NaCl because of the formation of a nonprotective TiO2 oxide scale, the corrosion of Ti60 is significantly aggravated due to the synergistic effect of NaCl and water vapor. When the temperature was increased up to the melting point of NaCl, the corrosion of Ti60 coated with NaCl both in air-NaCl and in O-2-NaCl plus water vapor became more severe. A mechanism to explain the effect of water vapor ann NaCl on the corrosion of Ti60 is proposed.
