For a V2+ ion in a KMgF3 crystal, by assuming that the local elastic stiffness constants c(ij) in the vicinity of the impurity ion are greater than those of the host due to the size-misfitting substitution, the stress dependences of optical and EPR spectra, and also the optical spectra and EPR g factor, can be reasonably explained in a unified way. It appears that the assumption is reasonable and that the optical and EPR measurements may be suitable methods of studying these local properties for the crystals containing transition-metal ion impurities.
