A new material, poly{methyl [3-(2-hydroxy-3-fluoro) phenyl] propyl siloxane},which is sensitive to toxic organophosphate vapor, is synthesized with 2-fluorophenol, allyl bromide and poly methyl hydrosiloxane as raw materials. The poly{methyl [3-(2-hydroxy-3-fluoro) phenyl]propyl siloxane} is coated on quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) to investigate its gas sensitive properties to dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP) vapor, a stimulant of nerve agents, and other interfering vapors. The poly{methyl [3-(2-hydroxy-3-fluoro) phenyl]propyl siloxane}-QCM sensor responds linearly to DMMP vapor with a slope of 9. 369×10~6Hz in the 13. 2×10~(-6)~65. 8×10~(-6) range and the limit of detection of 0. 323 × 10~6. When tested with saturated vapors, the sensor is more sensitive to DMMP than to other interfering vapors.
