An analytical perturbation formula of the gyromagnetic factor for the ground state 3A2(F) of d8 ions, in which not only the contribution from spin orbit coupling of the central transition metal ion but also that of ligand ions is included, are obtained in tetragonal symmetry. In the derivation, the contribution of all excited states for the g-factor is considered, and no adjustable parameter is introduced. The molecular orbital coefficients are determined by means of a semiempirical method for estimating the g-factor. The contribution of the spin-orbit coupling of ligand ions to the g-Shift is discussed in some pseudo-tetragonal Ni(II) compounds. The results show that the contribution must be considered, especially when the ligand ions have large spin-orbit coupling parameters. The calculation results agree well with experimental findings.
