A new cooling concept was developed in which the cast copper cooling elements, such as copper staves, are combined with castin Monel pipes. The Monel pipes form the cooling water passages,as a result a smooth and leakproof flowpath for the cooling water is realized with sufficient dimensional flexibility to meet existing furnace shell construction. As an additional advantage, any welds inside the furnace shell vessel are eliminated.
