Lithium vanadium oxide was synthesized by a new method in which LiOH, V2O5 and NH4OH were used as the starting materials to synthesize a precursor containing Li and V, and then obtain the resulting product by calcining the precursor. The LiV3O8 compound prepared by this synthesis method gave a good charge-discharge and cycle performance. A specific capacity of 258 mAh/g is obtained in the range of 1.8-4.0 V in the first cycle and 247 mAh/g in the eighth cycle. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
