用光电子能谱(XPS)证明了3 nn~5 nm的氧化铈晶格中含有44%的Ce3+,因而具有较强的还原性;用电子顺磁共振(EPR)证明这种纳米氧化铈具有清除自由基的性质;2009年美国J Colon等的研究团队用体外试验(细胞培养,In Vitro)和无胸腺的裸鼠的体内试验(生命耐久性,In Vivo)证明了在放射线作用下,有3 nm ~5 nmCeO2粒子存在情况下正常细胞和组织受到保护.这些研究结果,对人类的癌症治疗提出了新方案,即纳米氧化铈加合适的放疗,可克服放疗过程正常细胞和组织受损的弊病.3 nm~5 nm的氧化铈因能清除体内自由基而又是一种潜在抗衰老剂.本文作者认为要达到Ⅰ期人体试验的要求还应在安全性、有效性和选择性方面做更多的工作,同时展示了一张由本文作者自己制作的3 nm~5 nm的氧化铈的电镜照片.
