In this paper a two spin-orbit coupling parameter model based on a cluster approach is presented for the calculation of the g factor for Ti2+ ions in II-VI semiconductors ZnS, ZnSe and CdTe. In the model, not only the contribution due to the spin-orbit coupling of the central d(2) ion but also that of ligands is included. By use of the parameters obtained from the optical spectra, the calculated g factors agree well with observed values. The contribution to the g factor from the spin-orbitals of ligands is discussed.
