APPLICATION OF GLEEBLE 1500 ON SUPERPLASTICITY

Gleeble1500 thermo-mechanical simulation machine is considered to be the first grade equipment in materials' research. However, it is seldom used in superplastic research. Perhaps this is because its specimen's heating method is not suitable to get large elongation. Elongation is an important parameter to evaluate superplasticity, but some other parameters such as the relationship between stress and strain rate are more important than elongation-it is an essential property to superplasticity. The stress-strain rate relationship can be very easily and very accu- rately got with Gleeble machine than with some other simlar equipment, and the relationship between microstructure and superplastic deformation is more easily examined with Gleeble. Present authors have got some new achievement in anisotropy, heterogeneity of superplastic deformation, and first put forward the regulation of dynamic equilibrium in microstructural evolution during superplastic deformation. All of these have been concluded from the experimental results mainly through Gleeble as well as the microstructural examination.The research work has got the support of National Natural Science Foundation and some international cooperation. Some theoretic and experimental results have been used in the practice of superplastic forming. Obvious effect of reducing cost and improving quality of formed parts has been achieved.

Recent developments in high temperature intermetallics research in China

Intermetallics

A comprehensive survey was made of various advances of intermetallics research in China. The investigation focussed on the fundamental research and materials development. Charge density distribution and site occupancy of alloying elements, environmental embrittlement and chemical reaction, interface structures and phase transformation at the atomic scale, nanocrystalline intermetallics and its thermal stability, superplastic behavior and anomalous yield strength peak are reviewed. Several Ti-Al and Ni-Al based alloys have been manufactured, and show good mechanical properties. Diverse components have been fabricated successfully. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. Introduction to atmospheric corrosion research in China

Science and Technology of Advanced Materials

In this paper, we introduce the research on atmospheric corrosion in China. We describe the climate characteristics and the classification of atmospheric corrosivity across the whole country. Ni-Cr System solar selective thin solid films were prepared by d.c. magnetron reactivesputtering under the atmosphere of O2 and N2. Ni-Cr alloy was chosen as targetmaterial and copper sheets as substrate. Using SEM, Spectrophotometer and Talystepto analyze the relations between the selective characteristic and the structure, theformation and the thickness of the thin films. The aim is to obtain good solar selectivethin films with high absorptance and low emittance, which is applied to flat plate solarheat collectors.

Development of Continuous Casting Technology of Electrical Steel and New Products

The development of continuous casting technology of electrical steel was analyzed. The technologies and products characteristics of conventional continuous casting, thin slab continuous casting and rolling, middle thin slab continuous casting and rolling and twin-roll thin strip were compared. Conventional continuous casting technology was widely adopted in producing electrical steel; thin slab continuous casting and rolling and middle thin slab continuous casting and rolling technology industrialized electrical steel; and study of twin-roll thin strip casting technology was focused on fundamental experiments.

A research on investment casting technology of Ti alloys

In this research, the materials and the compositions of the surface slurries were chosen by considering the characteristics of Ti investment casting. The effects of solid-liquid ratios on the properties of the slurry and the effects of baking temperatures on the flexural strength have also been investigated. Flawless shells having smooth inner surface were manufactured with proper technology. Ti and its alloys were melted and poured by water-cooled Cu crucible vacuum induction furnace. The qualities of the investment castings made accordingly were studied and analyzed.

Mechanical and electrical properties of Ti2SnC dispersion-strengthened copper

Ti2SnC dispersion-strengthened (DS) copper matrix composites were prepared by the hot-pressing method. The change of microstructure, mechanical properties, and electrical resistivity of the composites as a function of Ti2SnC volume fraction were studied. The results demonstrated that the grain size of Cu decreased pronouncedly by incorporating Ti2SnC, and the strengthening effect was significant. Improvements in yield strength of up to four times that of pure copper were found in Cu-1 vol.% Ti2SnC, however, the conductivity of the composite was still 85.6 % of pure copper. The high strength and low electrical resistivity indicated that Ti2SnC is a promising reinforcement for copper.

CORRELATION BETWEEN STRESS COMPONENTS AND STRESS CORROSION CRACKS IN BRASS Lecturer,Department of Materials Physics,University of Science and Technology Beijing,Beijing 100083,China

The effects of stress components on nucleation sites and propagation directions of stress cor- rosion cracks in brass were investigated with specimens under mode Ⅱ and mode Ⅲ loadings. The results indicated that under mode Ⅱ loading,stress corrosion cracks nucleated on the site with maximum normal stress component and propagated along the plane perpendieular to the maximum normal stress,under mode Ⅲ loading,the stress corrosion crack was not evident on the 45°plane due to the general corrosion in aqueous solution with high NH_4OH concentra- tion,while stress corroded in aqueous solution with low NH_4OH concentration, numerous cracks with spacings of 10—150μm were found on the 45°plane with maximum normal stress and no stress corrosion cracks was observed on the plane with maximum shear stress.

Profile and Flatness Control Technology With a Long Shifting Stroke on Wide Non-Oriented Electrical Steel Sheets

In order to solve the difficult profile and flatness control problem of wide non-oriented electrical steel sheets, the factors such as the relationship between strip crown control and strip width, the relationship between the maximum wearing value of work roll and the number of a rolling campaign and the wear contour change of work roll were analyzed on the basis of industrial test. Through analyzing the rolling process characteristics of non-oriented electrical steel sheets, the ASR (asymmetry self-compensating work rolls) shape control technology and its roll shifting strategy of the wider non-oriented electrical steel sheets was proposed and developed. When the technology was applied, the number of the wide non-oriented electrical steel (23 mm×1280 mm) in one rolling campaign rose from 40 coils of the trial production to 70 coils of the industrial production, the ratio of the measured strip crown less than 45 μm was increased from 500% to 949%, and the ratio of the measured strip crown more than 60 μm was decreased from 200% to 07%.
