NUMERICAL STUDY ON CREEP DAMAGE OF COMPOSITES AT HIGH TEMPERATURE

A unit cell model is applied to study the creep damage behavior after fiber fractures in the fiber-reinforced composites at high temperature. The user subroutine CREEP has been programmed for ABA QUS. The fiber breakage results in a new crack. The results show that the stress concentration factor resulted from the fiber breakage increases with the creep time. The creep damage takes place near the crack, and then grows in the matrix along a certain angle, up to the total failure. The influences of the ratio of modulus of the fiber to the matrix (Ef/Em) on the creep deformation, damage and stress distributions have been studied. With the increasing Ef/Em, the damage in the matrix increases. Analysis on the different ductility of matrix shows that the creep damage of low ductile matrix composites is higher than high ductile matrix composites.

DETERMINATION OF CREEP PROPERTIES OF THERMAL BARRIER COATING(TBC) SYSTEMS FROM THE INDENTATION CREEP TESTING WITH ROUND FLAT INDENTERS

Indentation creep behavior with cylindrical flat indenters on the thermal barrier coating (TBC) was studied by finite element method (FEM). On the constant applied indentation creep stress, there is a steady creep rate for each case studied for different creep properties of the TBC system. The steady creep depth rate depends on the applied indentation creep stress and size of the indenters as well as the creep properties of the bond coat of the TBC and the substrate. The possibilities to determine the creep properties of a thermal barrier system from indention creep testing were discussed. As an example, with two different size indenters, the creep properties of bond coat of the TBC system can be derived by an inverse FEM method. This study not only provides a numerical method to obtain the creep properties of the TBC system, but also extends the application of indentation creep method with cylindrical flat indenters.

NUMERICAL STUDY OF THE NOTCH EFFECT ON THE CREEP BEHAVIOR AND LIFE OF NICKEL-BASE SINGLE CRYSTAL SUPERALLOYS

Numerical calculations of creep damage development and life behavior of circular notched specimens of nickel-base single crystal had been performed. The creep stress distributions depend on the specimen geometry. For a small notch radius, von Mises stress has an especial distribution. The damage distribution is greatly influenced by the notch depth, notch radius as well as notch type. The creep crack initiation place is different for each notched specimen. The characteristics of notch strengthening and notch weakening depend on the notch radius and notch type. For the same notch type, the creep rupture lives decrease with the decreasing of notch radius. A creep life model has been presented for the multiaxial stress states based on the crystallographic slip system theory.

STUDY ON THE EFFECTS OF BREAKAGE OF SINGLE FIBER ON CREEP BEHAVIOR OF FIBER REINFORCED COMPOSITES

A 3-D micro cell model with multi-fibers has been presented to study the effects of breakage of single fiber on the whole creep behavior of fiber reinforced composites by finite element method (FEM). Before the fiber breakage, the stresses of all fibers are identical. With the creep time increasing, stress in fiber increases but stress in matrix decreases. It is assumed that the fiber breakage occurs when the stress in fiber reaches a critical value. The stress redistribution resulted from the breakage of fiber has been obtained. The influence on the axial stress of the broken fiber is local. The stress in the all fiber sections is not uniform. There is a local stress concentration in the matrix. And this stress concentration in the matrix is more and more serious with the creep deformation. The stress transference of the loading due to the fiber breakage has been studies numerically. It is found that the fibers near to the broken fiber will take over more loading.

Calculations of the spin-lattice coupling coefficients F-ij and Z(ij) for MgO : Co2+ crystal

According to a uniform and simple method of calculating spin-lattice coupling coefficients and the perturbation formulas of gi factors and hyperfine structure constants Ai based on the cluster approach for 3d(7) ions in Cubic, tetragonal and trigonal octahedral crystal fields, the spin-lattice coupling coefficients F-ij (F-11, F-12, F-44), Z(ij) (Z(11), Z(12), Z(44)) and also g factor and hyperfine constant A for MgO:Co2+ are calculated by using the parameters obtained from the optical spectra without adjustable parameters. The calculated results show good agreement with the observed values. The difficulty in explaining the coefficients F-ij and Z(ij) is therefore removed.

Z-parameter Method for Damage Evaluation in HK40 Steel

A Z-parameter method is used to evaluate the damage process of HK40 austenitic steel. By using Z-parameter based on the Larson-Miller method, the nonlinear master curve of the log stress vs Larson-Miller parameter P can be expressed as: P=27.74-3.4lgσ-0.032σ, and a family of curves parallel to the master curve can be written as: P=(27.74-Z)-3.4lgσ-0.032σ, where Z represents the magnitude of the deviation from the master curve. According to the creep rupture data both from different segments of a serviced tube and from the same segment locations with different service time, the value of parameter Z has close relationship with the deterioration of creep rupture properties. The damage state of the samples is evaluated by monitoring the changes in natural frequency f and Young0s modulus E, and the relationships between Z and the damage parameters are discussed.

Z超重核的禁戒α衰变

采用密度依赖的结团模型研究了奇Z超重核的禁戒α衰变,α粒子与子核之间的微观核势通过双折叠模型对M3Y核子-核子相互作用势以及α粒子与子核的密度积分给出.α粒子与子核之间的库仑相互作用也通过α粒子与子核的电荷密度积分给出.计算发现,由于非零角动量带来的禁戒效应和小的α粒子预形成几率,奇Z超重核的α衰变寿命会明显变长.

Z-pin的拔出强度试验研究

通过单根Z-pin从复合材料层合板中拔出的试验方法,测试了Z-pin的拔出强度,计算了Z-pin的临界埋入深度,并引入抗拉强度利用率概念来表征Z-pin的抗拉强度在拔出过程中的利用程度.结果表明,直径0.50mm和0.28mm的Z-pin临界埋入深度分别约为5.1mm和3.1mm.当Z-pin的埋入深度小于临界埋入深度时,Z-pin从层板中拔出;Z-pin拔出强度与埋入深度成正比,与Z-pin的直径成反比;当Z-pin的埋入深度大于临界埋入深度时,Z-pin发生断裂,Z-pin的抗拉强度利用率达到100%.最后提出了提高抗拉强度利用率的建议.

复合材料Z-pin的压缩试验研究

通过三种复合材料Z-pin的轴向压缩试验,观察了各Z-pin的压缩行为,分析了三种复合材料Z-pin在不同长度时的极限应力及其失效形式.结果表明,直径为0.50mm的碳纤维Z-pin的压缩性能最好,其各长度Z-pin所能承担的极限应力都较大.直径0.28mm的碳纤维Z-pin易发生失稳现象,芳纶纤维Z-pin在压缩力的作用下,接触端容易受到破坏.两种碳纤维Z-pin临界应力的理论值与试验值吻合较好,但芳纶纤维Z-pin的临界应力的试验值比理论值偏低.

自升式平台用厚板的低温韧性与Z向性能

在4 300mm宽厚板轧机上进行了自升式平台用厚板F460的工业试验,并对低温韧性和Z向性能进行了研究.结果表明,心部条带状M/A岛导致低温韧性偏低,MnS夹杂物诱发厚度方向(Z向)拉伸断面收缩率不合格.采用降低碳、锰含量并提高轧后冷却速率的方法,避免了条带状M/A岛组织,低温韧性明显改善;通过增加Si-Ca线长度,增强对MnS夹杂物的球化效果,生成细小难变形的复合夹杂物,有利于提高平台用厚板的抗层状撕裂性能.
