Semiconducting properties of passive film formed on stainless steel by using A. V. passivation

Passive film formed on 304 stainless steel in 2.5 mol/L H2SO4 solution by using alternating voltage (A. V.) passivation have been investigated by measuring capacitance and photoelectrochemical parameters. The investigation of the effect of measure frequency on the slope of Mott-Schottky curve has been carried out. The photoelectrochemical measurements were consistent with the capacitance measurement. Analysis of the experimental results showed that the passive film formed 304 stainless steel by using A. V. passivation exhibits semiconducting properties. Using the simple model of semiconductor rather than the multi-donor level model can explain satisfactorily the semiconducting behavior of the film formed on 304 stainless steel by using A.V. passivation.

Preparation and properties of machinable Si(2)N(2)O/BN composites

Si(2)N(2)O/BN composites were successfully fabricated. With increasing BN content, the elastic modulus and hardness almost linearly decrease while the flexural strength does not exhibit a dramatic degradation. This is attributed to the fact that the homogeneously dispersed nanosized BN particles inhibit the grain growth of Si(2)N(2)O. The critical thermal-shock resistance temperature of the Si(2)N(2)O/30 vol% BN composite is enhanced by 400 degrees C than monolithic Si(2)N(2)O. The introduction of BN significantly improves the dielectric properties and machinability. The Si(2)N(2)O/BN composites show a combination of high strength, low dielectric constant, good thermal shock resistance, and machinability, indicating that they are promising structural/functional materials.

Synthesis of CoFe(2)O(4) nanoparticles with tunable magnetism by the modified hydrothermal method

Cobalt ferrite (CoFe(2)O(4)) nanoparticles were synthesized by using the hydrothermal route with the addition of trisodium citrate dihydrate (Na(3)CA center dot 2H(2)O). The formation of CoFe(2)O(4) nanoparticles with size ranging from 13 to 19 nm was confirmed by X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy; the clear-cut sharp of the nanoparticles was observed by transmission electron microscopy. By these characterization methods, the evolution of lattice constant and morphologies of the nanoparticles with the addition of Na(3)CA center dot 2H(2)O is observed. Furthermore, the magnetic hysteresis loops measured at room temperature indicate that the magnetic properties of the products also show clear relationship with the masses of Na(3)CA center dot 2H(2)O. For example, coercivity and high-field paramagnetic susceptibility increase with the increasing masses of Na(3)CA center dot 2H(2)O, whereas the saturation magnetization and the effective magnetic anisotropy constant have the maximum values as the mass of Na(3)CA center dot 2H(2)O is 1 g. This change of magnetic properties is related with the expanded lattice and the varied size and shape because of the addition of Na(3)CA center dot 2H(2)O.

Steplike magnetocapacitance and dielectric relaxation in spin frustrated Ca(3)Co(2)O(6)

The dielectric relaxation and magnetocapacitance effect of one-dimensional spin frustrated compound Ca(3)Co(2)O(6) are investigated. The steplike magnetocapacitance effect is observed and one to one corresponds to the steplike magnetization. We explain this phenomenon from the spin configuration dependent dielectric response. The simulation results using the Monte Carlo method are in good agreement with experimental data at low temperature. The close correspondence between the magnetic and dielectric properties indicates that the coupling is the intrinsic character of Ca(3)Co(2)O. The steplike magnetocapacitance effect may find potential applications in data storage and sensors. (C) 2008 American Institute of Physics.

两步法制备Y_2O_3掺杂ZnO压敏瓷

采用两步烧结制备了Y_2O_3掺杂ZnO压敏瓷,其电位梯度为863~1330V/mm,非线性系数为27.0~49.7,漏电流为0.55~1.13μA.研究结果表明,当Y_2C_3的掺杂量为1.00%(摩尔分数)时,压敏瓷电性能最好,电位梯度为1330V/mm,非线性系数为49.7,漏电流为0.76μA.

Effect of the impurity Li(x)Ni(1-x)O on the electrochemical properties of 5 V cathode material LiNi(0.5)Mn(1.5)O(4)

The formation of impurity Li(x)Ni(1-x)O when synthesizing spinel LiNi(0.5)Mn(1.5)O(4) using solid state reaction method, and its influence on the electrochemical properties of product LiNi(0.5)Mn(1.5)O(4) were studied. The secondary phase LixNi(1-x)O emerges at high temperature due to oxygen deficiency for LiNi(0.5)Mn(1.5)O(4) and partial reduction of Mn(4+) to Mn(3+) in LiNi(0.5)Mn(1.5)O(4). Annealing process can diminish oxygen deficiency and inhibit impurity Li(x)Ni(1-x)O. The impurity reduces the specific capacity of product, but it does not have obvious negative effect on cycle performance of product. The capacity of LiNi(0.5)Mn(1.5)O(4) that contains Li(x)Ni(1-x)O can deliver about 120 mAhg(-1). (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

EFFECT OF AN ELASTIC-PLASTIC SHOCK-WAVE .A. ON THE FATIGUE-STRENGTH OF WELDED-JOINTS

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures

Fatigue data for welded joints subjected to an explosion treatment (ET) were obtained using rotary bending fatigue specimens. The fatigue fracture surfaces were observed by SEM and the dislocation morphologies by TEM. Mechanical properties have been quantitively studied by considering elastic and plastic shock wave characteristics. The test results indicate that the fatigue strength of welded joints subjected to ET is apparently improved due to the action of elastic or plastic stress waves while the ductility of the welded joints, i.e., reduction in area, is greatly increased.

Enhanced photocatalytic activity of flowerlike Cu(2)O/Cu prepared using solvent-thermal route

Cu(2)O/Cu nanocomposites (NCs) with flowerlike nano-architecture were prepared using template-free stepwise solvent-thermal synthesis route with Cu(NO(3))(2)center dot 3H(2)O as a precursor. With the precursor concentration increasing gradually from 0.01 to 0.1 M, the morphology of the NCs evolves from nano-flower to microsphere. The content of Cu in the NCs can be easily controlled by adjusting the concentration of precursor and synthesis time. Using photocatalytic degradation of monoazo dye Procion Red MX-5B (PR) and phenol as the probe molecules under visible-light illumination, we have investigated the influence of Cu on the photocatalytic activity of Cu(2)O. When the content of Cu lies in the range of 27-71 wt%, the samples exhibit higher photocatalytic performance, indicating that these flowerlike Cu(2)O/Cu NCs are promising candidates for pollutant processing. 柠檬酸盐法制备超细Zn(Al)O的微波介电性能研究

本文研究了利用柠檬酸盐法制备的Zn(Al)O的介电性能.XRD分析显示先驱体燃烧后制成了单相的Zn(Al)O.热重分析显示先驱体易发生不完全燃烧,产生炭黑残留.燃烧产物经600℃,90min加热除去炭黑.2~18GHz的介电谱测量结果显示含炭黑的Zn(Al)O的复介电常数无论实部还是虚部均高于不含炭黑Zn(Al)O;介电谱还显示Zn(Al)O分别在X、Ku波段存在两个损耗峰.其中X波段的损耗峰位易受炭黑的影响,发生移动;Ku波段的损耗峰较稳定.文章理论计算Zn(Al)O微波吸收率.显示出Zn(Al)O对微波具有良好的透波作用.因此,当Zn(Al)O做红外反射材料时,不影响底层材料对微波的吸收.
