ANALYSIS OF FLUID FIELD OF LIQUID METAL IN ELECTROMAGNETIC CENTRIFUGAL CASTING

Navier-Stokes equation and Lorentz force equation are used to calculate the fluid field of liquid metal of electromagnetic centrifugal casting (EMCC) in this paper. A field equation is given, which shows the azimuthal velocity closely relates to electrical conductivity, magnetic density, viscosity of liquid metal and radius of casting. The results show that the stationary magnetic field can effectively restrain the fluid flow and the relative velocity between liquid metal and casting mould and the velocity gradient at solid / liquid interface increases with rising magnetic density, which has a great effect on the solidification of liquid metal and crystal growth characteristics.

The model of effective segregation coefficient(Keff) of solute atoms has been developed by considering the effect of environment work on barrier potential of atom motion at solid/liquid interface.It was found that not only the amount but also the type of environ ment work strongly affected the Keff in addition to the growth velocity R.

The results show that the creeprupture properties of DD3 single crystal satisfy the requirements for high performance turbine blade application. The influence of crystal orientation on the creeprupture property of DD3 single crystal was tested and discussed. An engineering criterion to evaluate the regimes of secondary and tertiary creep is proposed, and this method gives a reasonable result for practical applications. The fractography and TEM micrography of the tested specimens had been studied, and it is determined that the glidecontrolled creep is the basic creep mechanism of DD3 single crystal at intermediate temperature, but the thermally activated processes become dominant at higher temperature.
