The process of Luda ilmenite smelting by plasma furnace has been studied by means of self-designed plasma torch. The prereduced Luda ilmenite was melted satisfactorily in plasma furnace to produce Ti enriched slag containing 90-98% TiO_2.

Preparation, Microstructure and Age Hardening of Rapidly Solidified Mo-alloys

Various Mo-base alloys with high melting temperature were processed into ribbons and foils by the arc melt-spinning and the arc melt hammer-anvil technique. The preparation of ribbon and foil was introduced. The mechanical proper- ties, the surface topology and the microstructure of rapidly solidified Mo-base alloys containing B were examined. A strong grain refinement and a strong age-hardening response were observed on the as-quenched and the age specimens, the precipitates which cause age hardening were identified to be Mo_2B in Mo-B alloys, Mo_2B and ZrB_2 in Mo-Zr-B alloys, and Mo_2B and ThB_4 in Mo-Th-B alloys. The results indicate that the high strength Mo-base alloys containing boride precipitates can be developed by rapid solidifica- tion technique.

Reduction of Stibnite at Moderate Temperature

Reduction of stibnite with hydrogen in the presence of calcium oxide has been experimentally inves- tigated at moderate temperature. The results reveal that the effluent generated in the reduction pro- cess contains much less air-polluting substance H_2S, and that the reaction activation energy is 63. 3 kJ/mol. The form of antimony changes considerably when the reaction temperature varies.

With Fumi-Tosi interaction potential, the thermodynamic properties and the structure of alkali halide melts have been calculated using Monte Carlo computer simulation. The ratial distribution function ,ionic coordination number and the local structure were computed for several systems. The obtained equilibrium properties are in good agreement with the experimental results.

The partial phase diagram of Ag-Cu-Tb system on the Ag-Cu-rich region at room temperature is investigated by X-ray diffraction and optical microscopy analyses. The section consists of six singlephase regions, nine binary phase regions and four ternary phase regions. No ternary intermetallic compound is found.

Influence of Rare-Earth Elements on Electrical Properties of Pd

The influence of RE (RE = La, Ce. Pr. Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd. Tb. Dy, Er, Yb) additives with dilute concentrations on the electrical properties of Pd has been studied. All RE elements increase the specific resistivity (ρ) and decrease the resistance temperature coefficient (α) of Pd. and (ρ.α) Pd-RE ls equal to (ρ· α)Pd.The RE elements before Gd reduce the thermo-emf of Pd on Cu. other heavy RE enhance the thermo-emf.The experimental data of normalized Pd-0.1 at.-%RE alloys indicate that the effect of light RE additives on the specific resistivity of Pd is larger than that of heavy RE and Ce. Eu and Yb show anomalous strong effect. The valence and atomic size are main factors influencing the electrical properties.
