Creep-fatigue test was carried out using smooth round bar specimens of Type 304 stainless steel. Cavities and small cracks on the cross-section of the specimen were carefully observed by a scanning laser microscope. Moreover, direct current electrical potential method (DC-EPM) was applied in order to evaluate non-destructively the distribution of internal cracks. The distribution evaluated by DC-EPM agreed well with the actual one.

In two-phase TiAl alloys, the lamellar structures are of special interest and importance since they are so common and persistent. not only under as-cast conditions but also after thermal treatment. However. the lamellar structures are still poor in ductility,although they are beneficial for toughness and high temperature strength. This article will review the recent progress made in understanding the basic mechanical properties of the γ and α2 phases which comprise the two-phase alloys in Iamellar form, and discuss how an improved balance of strength and ductillty in the lamellar form may be achieved

In order to produce thick plates with complicated curved surface, a prototype bending machine by use of high frequency inductor is developed. The bending mechanism is based on the localized thermal stresses which are induced from the difference of temperature in thickness by the high frequency inductor. The operating speed and the thickness of plate are examined from the experiment, and the variation of temperature is measured. Finite element analysis is carried out, in the second part, based on the experimentally obtained temperature distribution. So-called "Mindlin plate element"is used in order to perform the simulation efficiently. We discuss the strategy to produce such curved surface in the practical process and describe further perspective of the production system.
