PREPARATION AND SOLIDIFICATION CHARACTERISTIC OF IN SITU DIRECTIONALLY SOLIDIFIED EUTECTIC Al_(11)La_3/Al COMPOSITE

In situ eutectic Al_(11)La_3/Al composite material with regular arrangement was prepared by zone melt liquid metal cooling directionally solidification under conditions of high temperature gradient G=700K/cm and growth rate R=6.0-20.0μm/s.Superpose diffraction pat- tern of Al_(11)La_3/Al composite shows that the preferred growth direction is[100]Al// [33]Al_(11)La_3,and the habit plane is(002)Al//(116)Al_(11)La_3.A low density(103)twin is ob- served in Al_(11)La_3 and the growth of(103)twin induces to branching to change the interlamellar spacing.

The influence of some factors on velocity field in continuous casting tundishes has been veri- fied by means of computer simulation.These factors are tundish wall inclination;the dimensionless geometric size of tundish,the double inclined wall tundish;the dimension and location of weir and dam.

Ductilization of Ni_3Al by Alloying with Substitutional Elements

This paper reviews recent research on ductility improvement of B-undoped Ni_3Al alloys.Ni_3Al binary alloys with hypostoichiometric compositions show appreciable ductility at room temperature when the samples are prepared by recrystallization annealing after cold pressing,although the alloys with stoichiometric and hyperstoichiometric compositions remain brittle.Melt-spun ribbons with hypostoichiometric compositions contain fine anti-phase domains (APDs),while no APD can be seen in melt-spun ribbons with a hyperstoichiometric composition.The ductility in hypostoichiometric Ni_3Al alloys is associated with low ordering energy of the alloys.The addition of ternary elements,which have been classified as γ formers such as Pd,Pt,Cu,Co and Ag.improves ductility of Ni_3Al alloys.Correspondingly,the microstructure of the melt-spun ribbons consists of fine APDs.The addition of γ' formers such as Si,Ti,Zr,V,Nb and Ta leads to brittle intergranular frac- ture.No APD was observed in the melt-spun ribbons of these ternary alloys.

PREDICTION ON THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF TERNARY LIQUID ALLOYS FROM WILSON EQUATION

An attempt was made on applying the Wilson equation to predict the thermodynamic proper- ties of ternary liquid alloys.The activity of each component in ternary liquid alloys was found to be conveniently calculated from the equation with the related binary bimolecular interaction parameters.The calculated values are in fair agreement with experimental data,and are veri- fied to be reliable by the criterion of classical thermodynamics.
