A new phase was found at the interface between Al film and Ni substrate when the time of ion-plating reaches 5 min.It was identified to be body centered tetragonal lattice with the constants a=b=0.588 nm,c=0.480 nm.The variation of microstructure and phases with the ion-plating time were observed.Based on these results,the ion-plating film formation mech- anism has been also discussed.

The interaction coefficients of Ca.Ti and Mg in the dilute Sn-based solution have been de- termined at 1500℃.Experimental measurements were taken by equilibrating the slag-alloy systems with metallic Sn as flux and graphite as reducing agent under Ar atmosphere mixed with different portion of CO.It was found that a considerable error may produce if the coefficients of ε_(Ca)~(Ca),ε_(Mg)~(Mg)and ε_(Ti)~(Ti)in the molten Sn were neglected when the activities of the components CaO,MgO and TiO_2 in the slags were estimated by this method.

The substructural development of martensite plates at different stage of the transformation for an Fe-21Ni-4Mn alloy has been investigated by using transmission electron microscope. Twinning was found in small thin platelets at the initial stage.Fine twins extend to the whole platelet.The dislocations and twins were found in the thick platelets at a later stage.Bending of the twins was also observed frequently at this stage.Finally,several platelets coalesce with each other to form a macroscopic(252)_f martensite“plate”.The original habit plane of the individual platelet was measured to be close to(121)_f.

The microstructure of Cr_(25)Ni_(20)stainless steel under plastic deformation up to 50% has re- vealed an even distributed twins,micro-twins and deformation bands.The σ-phase formation in 800℃ aged specimens is accelerated by its nucleation at either deformation twins or recrystallized grain boundaries under less or more deformation respectively.In the recrystallized zone,the recrystallization is prior to the precipitation of σ-phase.Although recrystallization may accelerate the formation of σ-phase,it is not essential.The twins and micro-twins produced by deformation may also provide the additional nucleation sites.

The in-phase and out-of-phase thermal fatigue,the C-P type and P-C type isothermal fa- tigue of grey cast iron were experimentally studied.The fatigue life was evaluated analytically by using the elastic-plastic fracture mechanics method(mainly J integral).The results of ex- periments and calculations showed that the lifes of in-phase and C-P type fatigue are longer than that of out-of-phase and P-C type fatigue respectively within the same strain range. This is in contrast to the results of other materials such as low carbon steel.On the other hand, the predicted lifes are consistent with experimental results.This suggests that J integral as a mechanics parameter for characterizing the thermal fatigue strength of grey cast iron and the mechanics model and the calculation method developed here are efficient.A parameter ΔW_1 was proposed from energy aspect to characterize the capacity of crack propagation. The isothermal fatigue life is the same as the thermal fatigue life for identical ΔW_1 values.

To study the growth of austenitic shells around the spheroidal graphite,color metallography has been employed.It is found that the shell is not a continuous layer of austenite,but a clus- ter of wedge-shaped crystals.Three types of shells have been observed.That may strongly af- fect the deterioration of the spheroidal graphite.The mechanism of the formation of the austenitic shells has also been discussed.

The fatigue-creep interaction behaviour of superalloy GH698 with different grain sizes has been studied at 700℃.The results show that three zones,F,C and FC,can be distinguished at the fatigue-creep interaction curves.In zones FC and C,the presence of alternative stresses inhibits the creep deformation process therefore delays the fracture of the alloy.This effect will be enhanced by grain refining.However,in zone F,grain refining exhibits an inverse ef fect under large alternative stresses.
