The directional solidification has been carried out for the Al-4Bi-2.5Co (wt pct) alloys with different melt superheat temperatures. The microstructure characterization and the quantitative metallographic analysis have been performed. The results indicated that the Bi-rich sphere size and cellular spacing decrease with increasing melt superheat temperature. The interaction between the advancing solidification interface and the Bi-rich spheres with different sizes was analyzed. The effect of the melt superheat treatment on microstructure evolution was discussed for the immiscible alloys. The microstructure development in ternary Al-Bi-Co alloys directionally solidified with different melt superheat temperatures was clarified.

采用TGA、EDAX及XRD等研究了定向凝固IC-6合金表面取向对其等温、循环氧化行为的影响.发现平行于凝固方向的纵切样品在950℃及1050℃下经100小时的等温氧化速率均明显大于横切样品的.这与横切样品表面存在品界,有利于铝的短路扩散有关。相反,由于Al_2O_3膜比较容易剥落,使横切样品表面在950℃抗循环氧化能力比纵切样品的差。在1100℃,晶界短路扩散作用减弱,横切与纵切样品循环氧化行为都表现出灾难性失重现象。

利用热重分析(TGA)、扫描电镜、能谱分析、电子探针及X射线衍射等技术研究了离子注入1×10~17Y~+/cm~2对Ni30Cr定向凝固合金1000℃恒温氧化行为的影响。合金的横向和纵向虽具有不同的显微结构,但氧化行为相似。注入Y~+降低了合金的氧化速率约1~2倍,细化了氧化膜晶粒,抑制了晶界优先氧化及内氧化现象的发生,减少了界面空洞,增强了膜的粘附性。产生上述结果的原因在于注入Y~+改变了合金的氧化机制,未注Y~+合金的氧化膜主要靠铬向外扩散生长,注Y~+合金则主要靠氧向内扩散生长。

The effects of Cu and Zr additions, on the microstructure formation, precipitation and ingot cracking, in commercial 3003 Al alloys have been studied. The investigation was carried out by characterizing the grain structure in DC-cast rolling ingots, and studying the solidification microstructure of Bridgman directionally solidified samples. To better understand the influence of the different Cu and Zr contents on the phase precipitations, differential thermal analysis (DTA) experiments were performed. Results from the ingot microstructure analysis show that in commercial alloys with relatively high contents of Cu and Zr, no significant differences in measured grain sizes compared to conventional 3003 Al alloys could be found. However, only Zr containing alloys exhibited significantly larger grain sizes. Increased grain refiner and/or titanium additions could compensate for the negative effects on nucleation normally following Zr alloying. Different types of precipitates were observed. Based on DTA experiments, increased Cu and Zr contents resulted in the formation of Al2Cu phase, and increased solidification range. It was also found that increased Mn content favors an early precipitation of Al6(Mn,Fe) giving relatively coarse precipitates. It was concluded that the Cu alloying has a detrimental effect on hot tearing.

The Si-TaSi2 eutectic in situ composite, which has highly-aligned and uniformly-distributed TaSi2 fibers in the Si matrix, can be obtained when the solidification rate changes from 0.3 to 9.0 mm/min. It is very interesting that one or two TaSi2 fibers are curved when the solidification rate reaches 6.0 mm/min, although it is very brittle in general. The formation mechanism of the curved fiber is discussed and mechanical properties of the TaSi2 fibers are examined by nanoindentation. It is found that the hardness and the elastic modulus of the bended TaSi2 fiber are much higher than that of the straight TaSi2 fiber. Moreover, the reasons why the mechanical properties of the straight TaSi2 fiber are different from that of the curved TaSi2 fiber are discussed. This can be ascribed to internal stress which results from mismatch of the thermal expansion coefficients of the two phases and di®erent crystallographic orientations.

The precipitates at grain boundary in a directionally solidified Ni base superalloy after heat treatment, aging at 975°C, and creep rupture test have been characterized. Besides the primary MC carbides and fine particles of μ phase, the Re-containing M23C6 was observed. The precipitation kinetics revealed that the formation of M23C6 was associated with the dissolution of μ phase and MC carbides. TEM image shows that the continuous precipitation of M23C6 particles effectively hinders the dislocation movement and strengthens the grain boundaries. The high strength of the alloy suggests that M23C6 carbides are beneficial to the properties although Re as an important matrix strengthening element was consumed.

The influence of Re addition and withdrawal rate on the solidification behavior of the first generation single crystal superalloy AM3 was investigated by directional solidification and quenching experiments. The primary dendrite arm spacing and eutectic volume fraction were measured from directionally solidified superalloy AM3 with different Re contents. It is found that the primary dendrite arm spacing is determined by the withdrawal rate, and Re does not influence on the value. The eutectic fraction increases with increasing Re addition. Partition coefficients of alloying elements were investigated with energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS) analysis. The data was submitted to a statistical treatment to establish the solidification path, and the partition
coefficients were measured by fitting the curve with a modified Scheil formula. It is shown that the addition of Re results in bigger microsegregation of alloying elements in directionally solidified AM3 superalloy.
